According to jail records in Hillsborough County, co-offensive coordinator Kevin Sumlin, a Bethesda resident, was arrested early on Sunday morning on suspicion that he was drinking and driving along a highway.

Sumlin, 59, was arrested at around 12:40 a.m. on Oct. 22 and released later that day after posting a $500 bond for a DUI charge. Officials noted that he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test while he was being interviewed by officers, which could lead to a suspended license under Florida law.

The former head coach at Texas A&M, Arizona, and Houston is in his first season with the Terrapins, who had their bye week this weekend and haven't played since their Saturday, Oct. 14 nail-biter against Illinois.

It is unclear whether Sumlin's arrest will impact his standing with the team, nor have officials said whether or not he'll be on the sideline this Saturday when the 5-2 Maryland squad squares off in Illinois against Northwestern as they look to shake off two straight losses after rattling off five straight to start the season.

"Maryland Athletics is aware of the incident this past weekend involving football coach Kevin Sumlin," the university said in a statement. "As this is an ongoing investigation, we will have no further comment."
